FROM THE TOWER

Hells Half Acre Mountain is a Forest Service Fire lookout in the Frank Church/River-of-No-Return Wilderness. Our radio call sign is "Hells Half". The background image shows the sun setting behind the tower. I was trying for a similar effect seen in the movie, Platoon - the "latrine" scene with Grace Slick singing White Rabbit.

I live for lightning at the tower. It is so powerfully beautiful and a quite challenging subject to capture with a camera. This remarkable bolt - and it is a simultaneous strike - occurred south of Squaretop Mountain, on the Salmon National Forest.
